A PHILANTHROPIC FAMILY
A philanthropic ethos has guided the Lee family for generations. Grounded in his belief of giving back to society, Dr. Simon K.Y. Lee dedicated his life to public service and philanthropy, leaving an enduring legacy that continues to inspire SHG’s philanthropic endeavours.
Good Causes
Dr. Lee’s unwavering commitment to community service spanned more than five decades and was reflected in his leadership roles in organisations including the Lions Club and the Hong Kong Society for the Deaf. His work culminated in the establishment of the Simon K.Y. Lee Foundation in 1985, which continues to be a testament to his dedication to philanthropy. Dr. Lee became a Justice of the Peace in 1985 and was honoured with an MBE in 1993. His lasting legacy of community service is not only evident in his own achievements but also in his family’s philanthropic endeavours and contributions to this day.
In addition to serving on the board of the Simon K.Y. Lee Foundation, many of Dr. Lee’s family serve on the boards of charitable organisations and HKSAR Government Commissions or Committees.
Philanthropy Today
SHG’s approach to philanthropy mirrors Dr. Lee’s philosophy, prioritising initiatives that address societal needs often overlooked by public funding bodies, and providing practical, tangible solutions.
The Simon K.Y. Lee Foundation established the Elderly Fund, the Children’s Fund, and the Karen’s Fund. We collaborate with universities, NGOs, and experts to drive sustainable impact by initiating and supporting innovative evidence-based projects. Our mission centres on enhancing the well-being of the elderly, empowering children from deprived families with a view to addressing intergenerational poverty, and assisting young adults in their career development so that they may achieve self-understanding and self-actualisation.
This legacy of compassionate giving and active advocacy brings to life SHG’s commitment to building a more equitable and empowered society, aligning with the vision of a world where every individual has equal opportunities and the ability to live life to the fullest.
